Antefatto: ormai dieci anni fa, la redazione di Hotmc decise che sarebbe stata una cosa molto carina chiudere l’anno con alcune liste dei migliori 10 dischi usciti in quel periodo; le nostre e quelle di una manciata di rapper italiani da noi particolarmente apprezzati. Con gli anni ci siamo fatti prendere un po’ la mano, la manciata di rapper è diventata una fiumana di decine e decine di persone, oltre alle nostre abbiamo aggiunto anche quelle della concorrenza e, con il passare degli anni, quello delle classifiche di Hotmc è diventato un appuntamento immancabile per tutti. Anche le regole sono cambiate, forse perché sono cambiati i tempi: c’è chi anziché consigliare dischi consiglia libri, chi parla di cibo, chi spiega perché non ha nessuna intenzione di partecipare al gioco, chi ci mette singoli o vinili, chi allega un papiro di spiegazione e chi più ne ha, più ne metta. E a noi va benissimo così. In questa pagina, quindi, troverete i pensierini di fine anno (chiamarle classifiche ormai è riduttivo) della redazione di Hotmc, degli altri media che si occupano di rap (in particolare gli amici degli altri siti) e di mc, producer, dj, molti dei quali magari non si occupano più di hip hop, ma dall’hip hop sono partiti e quindi danno volentieri il loro contributo.

Credo che sovvertirò le regole di Hotmc e consiglierò 10 volte un album solo. Blumi, non mi odiare, lo faccio per una buona causa: so che sono qua in mezzo a tantissimi nomi molto più illustri di me, ma ne approfitto per mettere un po’ di luce su un disco che non solo mi è piaciuto, mi ha cambiato la vita. E’ il disco omonimo di Manupuma, un album d’esordio talmente ben scritto e ben musicato che sinceramente ha dell’incredibile. Gli arrangiamenti sono più belli di quelli di molti artisti internazionali, i testi sono così veri che sono forse il disco più hip-hop dell’anno. Non mi credete? Ascoltate “Il Mio Zar” dedicato al padre di Manu. In un mondo dove le canzoni sono scritte da team di personaggi che scrivono per lavoro canzoni con 7 parole vuote, Manupuma mi ha dato la speranza di sognare che la musica italiana potesse tornare ad essere interessante: giusto dirlo qui su Hotmc, anche quest’anno, se non fosse stato per il rap non avremmo avuto nulla da ascoltare. Se non Manupuma.

Apollo Brown & Ras Kass “Blasphemy” – dopo anni passati a vergare strumentali di anonima fattura, le rime di Ras Kass hanno finalmente trovato nei beat del prodigio di Detroit il cavallo di Troia ideale per rientrare con la dovuta prepotenza nei confini della scena che conta. Meglio tardi che mai; ora, però, vediamo di rimanerci!
Dilated Peoples “Director Of Photography” – Il ritorno del fantastic trio è roba da far aumentare la salivazione Il livello lirico dei testi è difatti di grande spessore, la notevole chimica tra Evidence e Rakaa è del tutto priva di ruggini, mixando con efficacia gli interessanti spunti di riflessione del primo alla filosofia astratta del secondo, una grande crescita individuale, come di gruppo. Il miglior prodotto marchiato Dilated Peoples degli ultimi tredici anni.
Edo.G “After All These Years” – Dopo tutti questi anni, laggiù nel sottosuolo si può vivere ancora piuttosto bene. Colui che tanto tempo fa mise Boston sulla mappa dell’Hip-Hop non ha perso la voglia di misurarsi con se stesso, di proporre musica di grande spessore condividendo le sue riflessioni con chiunque le voglia sentire, cercando di intrattenere ma pure di offrire al contempo dei preziosi consigli per le generazioni a venire.
Freddie Gibbs & Madlib “Piñata” – nelle sue diciasette tracce, approfondisce il variopinto mondo madlibiano scagliandoci contro le sue abilità al campionatore e proponendoci il meglio della sua oramai famosa collezione di vinili, o almeno sample polverosi, giri di piano che si stampano subito in testa. Il livello lirico non è da meno.
Hail Mary Mallon “Bestiary” – “Bestiary” si presenta come un lavoro nel complesso più coeso e uniforme del precedente, musicalmente di grande impatto, ed evidenzia una sempre maggiore profondità d’intesa tra le due bestie da microfono Aesop Rock e Rob Sonic.
Onyx “#Wakedafucup” – Gli Onyx hanno sempre interpretato il classico ruolo del reietto della scena, lasciando un’unica possibile scelta: amarli o odiarli. La bellezza di quest’album risiede nella capacità di rivisitare in parte il proprio stile, pur mantenendone ben saldi gli ideali artistici e di vita, scelta che paga e probabilmente pagherà sempre.
Run The Jewels “Run The Jewels 2” – combo che non delude nemmeno alla seconda puntata, anzi, questi due pazzi fanno e dicono quello che gli pare e a noi piace proprio così, soprattutto se alle macchine c’è il più estroso beatmaker Hip-Hop dal 1997 ad oggi.
Step Brothers “Lord Steppington” – L’humour la fa da padrone, esempi lampanti gli interludi dall’atmosfera rinascimentale, dove archi e fiati danno respiro tra una traccia e l’altra. Il resto è… è… ma diamine, non l’hai ancora comprato?
The Doppelgangaz “Peace Kehd” – Attitudine cazzona, talento a pacchi, gestione del flow sostanzialmente impeccabile e numerose citazioni umoristiche e dissacranti, unite a un’auto-produzione che partorisce bombe assolute, tra le quali trovano spazio brevi episodi strumentali che sottolineano la genialità di Matter Ov Fact ed EP
Verbal Kent “Sound Of The Weapon” – un disco che funge quale ideale sodalizio tra i talenti di Verbal Kent e del produttore Khrysis, entrambi firmatari di una tra le migliori prove delle rispettive carriere, non certo brevi: non rivoluziona nulla ma, se vi basta, è un disco di ottimo Hip-Hop, solido, longevo e dannatamente consistente.

posso aggiungere una breve premessa? vabbè, lo faccio.

Fare le classifiche con la vecchiaia non mi riesce. Scelgo di condividere – in ordine sparso – con chi legge dieci canzoni tutte italiane e tutte (più o meno) rappuse che in questi dodici mesi hanno suonato spesso nelle mie cuffie, per motivi diversi. A volte per il beat, a volte per l’inciso, altre per un verso.
Non so se sono le più belle, magari me ne sto dimenticando qualcuna clamorosa e poi dirò: “cazzo”. Ma quest’è.
Ho scelto volutamente di tenere fuori le mie, considerandole fuori concorso non necessariamente perché troppo belle.
